Senior Industrial Designer

Position Description

The Senior Industrial Designer is expected to participate and lead design discussions as well as consolidate requirements from clients, user research, and engineering. The successful candidate will play leadership role in developing innovative design solutions to address client needs. Daily activities include design concept generation, 2D product renderings, 3D design visualization and prototyping, molding and casting, detailed design specification, and production artworks.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience with excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through on multiple projects. They will be able to formulate his/her own solutions and communicate the design thinking to stakeholders and customers. Besides internal design reviews, the candidate will occasionally be required to travel to customer locations to present designs or participate in meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage client’s projects and budgets in project management application
  • Collaborate in design brainstorming sessions
  • Participate in user research activities and user experience studies
  • Create product designs in 2D and 3D formats for both in-house development or manufacturing
  • Prototype designs using in-house and 3rd party resources
  • Trouble-shoot development issues
  • Present design solutions internally as well as in front of clients
  • Develop products for manufacturing in 3D CAD (SolidWorks)

Qualifications:

  • Passion for design and interest researching, designing, and executing product development
  • 5+ years proven experience designing, preferably in medical devices
  • Experienced with the entire product development process
  • Create molds, casts, and machine prototypes
  • Proficient in applications such as Solidworks (required), Maxwell or Photoview 360, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and MS Office
  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Able to articulate design solutions to stakeholders and clients
  • Degree in industrial design or equivalent experience in an product design environment or agency
  • Attention to detail and problem solving
  • Understanding of manufacturing process and designing for production
